Ponte Sobre O Rio Negro

The Ponte Sobre O Rio Negro is a 3505m long crossing of the Rio Negro in the heart of the Amazon rain forest, linking Manaus with Iranduba over the river Negro. DLT were awarded the contract to design, supply and operate 2 No 320 tonne capacity deck erection gantries to handle the 52 precast concrete deck sections of the cable stayed spans by main contractor Camargo Correa - Construbase JV. The bridge has a 400m long cable stayed section, comprising 2 No spans of 200m on either side of a 160m high central pier. The deck of the bridge is glued precast segmental, with the segments being cast on barge mounted casting cells rather than on land due to the very large seasonal change in river level. Navigation clearance under the deck is 57m from high water level. The gantries use 2 No DL-S185 strand jacks for lifting the deck segments and separate hydraulic rams to adjust the plan position and slope of the segment for accurate alignment against the previous segment. The DL-S185 strand jacks incorporate a special bleed lowering system for slow and accurate level adjustment, to within +/- 1 mm. The gantries were erected on to the deck in July 2010 and deck erection commenced in August 2010.
